Big risks, rewards in mixed-use development

When it comes to speak about large new-built hotel development, the question between shall we focus on a hotel-use or mixed-use development is growing.

If welcoming other activities than just an hotel might sometimes pollute its activity, hospitality is still considered as more risky than condos development etc. but mixed-use can also be complementary, securing a hotel development project towards investors, or be a lever by selling real-estate (i.e. condos) to finance the project.

But some hoteliers are against, because of brand standards, fear of different clientele typology etc. Indeed this debate is passionating, and HotelNewsNow.com is offering here a nice article dealing with the subject; "Big risks, rewards in mixed-use development"

Hospitaliy versus Local Development

I am happy to share with you my Research Paper I did to obtain my Bachelor of Science.

Formerly doing an internship at Marriott Lodging Development, I decided to focus on this same theme; Lodging Development in Africa. Finding a lot of material dealing with the general Travel & Tourism industry impacts on economies and communities; I decided to go further focusing on the impacts of Lodging (lodging includes a wider range of accommodation facilities than the term hospitality) Development on local economies.

To get a better understanding of the continent's complexity, I decided to study different typologies of destinations: from mass based industry to fast pace developing ones. Opposing such cases enabled me to highlight the consequences (either with benefice or issues) and synergies lodging development and local development have in commom.
